The essence of network virtualization technology is that it allows multiple heterogeneous network architecture to share the same underlying physical network, so as to achieve full use of network resources. Software Defined Network, of which the representative is OpenFlow technology, can separate the control plane and data plane of network devices, so as to enable the sharing of network resources and flexible control of network traffic. The Open Flow based new network architecture is a natural carrier of network virtualization and is also a good platform for future network research and innovation. This paper firstly introduces the core technologies of network architechture of SDN and OpenFlow, and then explains the network virtualization technologies and the whole architecture of the OpenDaylight controller. At last, it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the current four types of OpenFlow based network virtualization strategies, and proposes a new network virtualization architechture to deal with the disadvantages. Based on this architecture, some researches have been done, and an OpenFlow network virtualization system is implemented on the OpenDaylight controller. The system provides the function of creating, managing and controlling the virtual subnet by building multiple functional modules in the OpenFlow controllers, and the modular design approach improves system compatibility and scalability. Meanwhile, the modular design approach improves system compatibility and scalability. The experimental results show that the proposed architecture can configure virtual subnets using user-customized settings and the virtual subnets are independent of each other.
