OpenFlow is proposed by Stanford University for the first time.In a few years time,a variety of technology-based OpenFlow technology has been rapid development and wide acceptance. Because of this innovative technology is proposed, OpenFlow technology absolutly brings many advantages for the development of the Ethernet network. In this paper, Storage Software Defined Network(SSDN) technology is the introduction of OpenFlow technology applied to FCoE storage network. The new technology based on OpenFlow technology SSDN technology, provides new possible for the development of future-based storage network. Meanwhile, this paper proposed FlowVisor as SSDN virtualization layer to achieve SSDN network virtualization. After SSDN network virtualization, the network becomes more flexible and controllable. And the network becomes a real network test platform, which can greatly promote the development of future storage networks.OpenFlow technology is a new technology which separates the control plane from the forwarding plane on a network device. This new technology meets the requirement of the future network development, which is programmable, centralized control,virtualization and IT-oriented. SSDN is composed SSDN controller, OpenFlow storage switches, OpenFlow protocol three parts. SSDN controllers communicate OpenFlow switches through the OpenFlow protocol. SSDN virtualization is achieved by FlowVisor technology, which sites between SSDN storage controller and OpenFlow switches.FlowVisor respectively communicate through the OpenFlow protocol with SSDN controllers and OF storage switches. OpenFlow technology provides a absolute hardware abstraction layer for SSDN virtualization. FlowVisor is the SSDN virtualization layer on top of absolute hardware abstraction layer. This absolute hardware abstraction layer enables more rapid innovation both above and below the virtualization layer. FlowVisor transparently achieve the SSDN virtualization. So,SSDN controllers and OpenFlow storage switches are without modification for SSDN virtualization. From the point view of SSDN controller, FlowVisor is an OF storage switches.From the point view of OpenFlow storage switch, FlowVisor a SSDN controller.In this paper, the OpenFlow technology and FCoE technology combines presented SSDN technology, which is a separation of control and forwarding planes storage network architecture. In order to achieve SSDN network virtualization, this paper proposed FlowVisor as a virtual layer solution. Firstly, the content of the topic-related is introduced, and briefly describes the relevant technical background of the design. Then,FlowVisor which is the key technology of SSDN virtualization and its important processes are dissertated in detail.In this paper, FlowVisor modules, including the critical packages processing of OpenFlow, and the configuration of inserting, deleting,modifing slice FlowSpace were Designed and implemented. Meanwhile, the OpenFlow module, OpenFlow control module and interface modules of OpenFlow storage switche and the OpenFlow module, the OpenFlow storage switche control module and FCoE frame processing module of SSDN controller were Designed and implemented. Finally,the connectivity of SSDN controllers and OpenFlow storage switches were tested and analyzed. This paper also confirms FlowVisor is valid for SSDN virtualization.
