Research On The Application Of WLAN Technologies In The Campus Network

At present, the mobile data service demands of campus users are growing rapidly with the development and the popularization of mobile communication technologies. Although the3 G and 4G networks have been put into use, they can not be satisfied with the exponential growth of the current mobile data service because of the bandwidth limit. WLAN is a wireless access network with simple network structure, plenty frequency resources and low construction cost. It is regarded as a good complement of cellular mobile access network. In the 4G era, it is very essential for operators to let WLAN play its characteristics in the campus WLAN services to obtain the advantages. And it will be the important factor for the three major operators in future competition that getting the suitable development of positioning and operation mode and realizing the integration of 3G/4G, WLAN and fixed line. China Mobile has provided the campus WLAN service for a long time. Campus users can access to CMCC-EDU through terminals with WLAN function. As a wholly owned subsidiary of China Mobile, China Tietong has taken part in the construction and maintenance of the campus WLAN.Firstly, the development and application of WLAN is reviewed. The improvement of key technologies of 802.11 ac, network modes and technical characteristics of WLAN are introduced and analyzed. Secondly, we the application in campus network of WLAN technologies are analyzed from the aspects of demand analysis, operation modes, profit modes and technical advantages. Then, the construction methods of Shihezi University campus WLAN is presented as a example based on the development of WLAN campus of China Mobile. After several years pre-construction, WLAN network has obtained a nice development and has formed a certain scale. However, due to the small capacity and low speed and other problems, WLAN network optimization and adjustment should be taken out to meet the needs of users. So, we analyze the typical failure cases from the point of view of operation and maintenance, and then discuss how to optimize the network, improve the ability of fault handling and the quality of service.
