With the development of radar technology, the function and system has been making great progress. The function has changed from single function of detecting and positioning target to multi-functions of imaging, classifying and identifying target, whereas the system has changed from the early anti-collision system to the modern airborne system and imaging system, etc. At the same time, with the kinds and properties of radar target becoming more complex, radar has been faced with more and more threads, for example, the target's radar-cross-section(RCS) getting smaller and hence the echo power is decreased, the Electronic Counter Measures(ECM) technology make radar working environment more harsh, and the echoes of targets with low and ultra-low altitude is affected heavily by the clutter echoes. In a word, these targets are difficult to detect because of its low signal to noise ratio. Hence, making efforts to increase ability of detecting these targets is very meaningful for protecting our homeland. To get this intention, it is important to study the process of how radar detects target and the ingredients that affect the target detection. By doing this, new algorithm of detecting this kinds of target can be proposed.Hence, in what follows, a research is made on the process of detecting targets firstly. Before detecting targets, many impulses are accumulated, which has three methods. Constant false alarm rate(CFAR) is commonly used to detecting targets, but this method almost cannot detect these dim moving targets. Making every effort to get information from echo signal is key point to solve this problem.Secondly, because of bad performance of common detecting method, radar multi-channel based clutter map is proposed to improve detecting ability. Compared with CFAR, normal clutter map can improve detecting ability, but the improvability is so small that it is not enough to solve this problem. So, we propose a three-dimension radar clutter map which contains three domain data of radar clutter, i.e., the range, the angle and the Doppler domain. By this type of clutter map, we can detect targets on several Doppler frequency channels.Finally, a radar signal processing machine based real working parameters is analyzed. Also, hardware resource is evaluated whether these modules are realizable or not in a project.
