Among all the embedded systems, ARM CPU and FPGA are the most widely used core devices. Several FPGA manufacturers have published their products called So C FPGA, which integrate FPGA and ARM CPU into one chip under the chip integrate industry trend. This kind of device have advantages of both FPGA and ARM CPU, which means it can do parallel data processing with high speed and keep flexible in software designing at the same time. This gives So C FPGA very high priority in those complex embedded system designs, which contains both high speed data processing units and software intricate control units.Therefore, it's very necessary for us to do some research on the newly invented embedded systems based on So C FPGA. This paper introduces a design of video transmitting system based on the So C FPGA of Cyclone V series produced by Altera cop. This system consist of two parts, video encoding unit and video decoding unit, and it can capture video, transmit video data through the local network, and playback after that. This system can be used in many areas such as video conference, security monitoring, and smart home.This paper begins with new background and new features of So C FPGA, and introduce the software and hardware design flow of the embedded systems based on So C FPGA and compared with the traditional embedded system design flow. Then introduce the details of the video transmitting system designing and validating. The hardware part includes CMOS camera video capture, color space conversion, control of multi-port SDRAM, H.264 encoder unit, VGA display unit, and the top level design of the HPS system. Software part includes configures of Linux operating system on embedded systems, software control programs for the hardware units, video transmitting through the network and video decoder based on the VPU of Freescale i MX.6 quad-core CPU. At the last part, the paper also introduces the validation of the system.This very video transmitting system which takes full advantages of So C FPGA can deliver video through network with high quality and stability, and has advantages in modularity, development cycle, flexibility and upgradeability.
