OTA performance measurements are critical to wireless devices. In order to maintain the safety of electromagnetic environment and wireless communication, OTA performance test standards were carried out. For example, all mobile phones are required to pass the certification testing, in order to obtain the qualification for sale. Meanwhile, the OTA performance measurement result can significantly reflect its real radiated performance during working, which is absolutely the user experience. Therefore, OTA performance testing is highly concerned by operators, manufacturers, certification bodies and even users. The standard OTA test method are straight-forward and widely used. However, the method are time-consuming, high-cost and hard to be accepted widely. Some alternative methods for OTA test were also described which could efficiently decrease the measurement time. However, the methods are not accepted because of lack of accuracy. In view of the above issues, this paper focuses on the following work.1. Studyon the OTA test standard, especially on the definition of OTA test, the standard test process and test methods and the advantages and disadvantages of the standard methods.2. This paper proposed a method for eliminating the RSS reporting error.3. This paper proposed a RSS based method for OTA test which can significantly reduce the measurement time while maintaining the measurement accuracy with the RSS system error eliminated.4. This paper proposed a transmit-receive-co-frequency based method for OTA test which can not only speeds up the test, but also improves the test accuracy compared to the standard method for OTA.5. The comparison experiments were conducted to validate the proposed methods in terms of speed, accuracy, repeatability, and applicability. Two fast OTA test methods were proposed in this paper, the RSS based method and the transmit-receive-co-frequency based method. And the two methods are all significant.
