The ionosphere is the ionized region of the earth's atmosphere, which is an important part of the near-earth space, it is a great significance to research ionosphere. Incoherent scatter radar(ISR) is a powerful equipment to measure multiple parameters covering the full ionosphere, including electron density, ion temperature, electron temperature, drift velocity, etc. However, ISR is a very complicated system, how to evaluate its detecting ability, how to process coded signal, how to inverse parameters from echo, these are the problems that need to be solved in the study of ISR. In this paper, the method of evaluating signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of ISR is put forward; the signal processing of baker code, long pulse code and alternating code is researched; and parameter inversion of measured data is studied. The main work is shown as follows:First, on the basis of the principle of ISR, incoherent scatter detection is introduced, and the relationship between statistical characteristic of scattered signal and ionospheric medium is described.Second, through the analysis of echo SNR, we research detecting ability of ISR, and find effective method to evaluate SNR. The correctness of this method is verified using data from standard model and radar, which will be significantly instructive and meaningful for ISR system design.Third, the basic theory of ISR signal processing is studied, discussing the coding, decoding and analysis of signal. Summarize the characteristics of different modulation waveforms, the result can provide good basis to choose detecting waveform of ISR. The ionospheric parameters can be obtained by analyzing measured echo power spectrum, and comparing it with data from empirical standard model to validate the result.
