In order to establish the digitized forest herbarium in the College of Forestry of Guangxi University, the photos of herbarium sheet and wood specimen were taken based on the existing specimens of trees herbarium and wood herbarium. The overall framework of the digital forest herbarium was designed by means of the platform development technology of Windows2003 +Apache+MYSQL+PHP, the website of the forest digitized herbarium was constructed, the 3D virtual space was constructed for the wood herbarium, the functions of online display and search for the trees herbarium and wood herbarium were achieved.The conclusion are as follows:Firstly, the website of the digitized forest herbarium was constructed which realized the digitized show of the forest specimen. The website mainly contains three modules such as sample library,3D virtual herbarium and specimens show. And users can achieve the retrieve of forest specimens through these two methods.Secondly, the database of trees specimen and wood specimen was established. The database contains graphic information on 1100 species. The image information includes 867 photos of wood specimens,976 photos of macroscopic structure,741 photos of cross-sectional microscopic structure, 737 photos of tangential-section microscopic structure,58 photos of radial-section microscopic structure, and 300 photos of flowers and leaves. The text information includes the description of biomorphic characterization, the description of wood structure, wood properties and uses, origin and other distribution. The system of online display and research for trees herbarium and wood herbarium was designed, which shows graphic information of specimen, achieves a fuzzy inquiry by species Chinese name, collection ID, Latin names, and other keywords, allowing users to query information quickly and easily.Finally, the 3D virtual exhibition platform of the forest herbarium was built, which can indicate the overall morphology of the herbarium. The users can freely roam in the virtual herbarium through key operation, walking to the specimen cabinet, taking out of the specimens, and showing the specimen information by photos and text, which optimizes the user experience of the digitized forest herbarium.
