The fire is dangerous and a huge threat to the public security and social development of human, therefore, efficient and accurate fire detection has great value and significance. The fire was usually found after a period of time, and it is a thorny issue to find the fire in time especially in the complex environment. In the field of fire detection, so far, there have been a lot of researches and achievements. In recent years, along with the development of computer science and technology, fire detection method based on image processing has obtained more and more attention. At the same time, the video surveillance system is widely used, and the image processing algorithm in video monitoring system is currently a hot topic.Since the traditional sensor system and existing fire detection algorithm based on image processing are easy to be interfered and cause incorrect reports, this paper proposes an algorithm to detect fire:the RGB and YCbCr color model are used to get a new formula with their parameters, as well as fire contour is approximate to polygon, and then the fire is detected by the variance of edge number. The new formula is the biggest difference between the color detection algorithm in this paper and other color detection algorithms. Parameter R minus Y, then the difference is compared with threshold to determine whether it is a fire. This paper puts forward innovatively that using approximate polygon of fire contour instead of other characteristics, such as sharp corners. Morphological change, flicker, spreading and expanding are the characteristics of fire. According to the above characteristics, the fire is considered as a special kind of moving objects, and the Frame Difference Method is used to detect the region of the suspected fire, and the color of the fire is used to detect the suspected regions closing to the fire color, further eliminating the interference objects which are not closing to the fire color in the motion state. The processed images have finally been approximate polygon after steps such as smoothing, corrosion expansion, edge detection, and corner detection. Then the number of edges is counted up and the variance of the number of edges of polygon is got. After the comparison with other algorithms, experiments show that this method can effectively improve the accuracy of fire detection and reduce the false alarm.Based on the network video monitoring technology, wireless bridge technology, windows development technology, VLC technology and OpenCV technology, the paper makes an in-depth analysis for video surveillance systems, and completes a wireless video monitoring system based on image processing, and fire detection algorithm is added to the client. This paper designs the client of the monitoring system on the VS2012 platform and the QT platform. The client realizes the function of video monitoring and fire detection.
