In the era of globalization, international news reporting has become more and more important. Successful international news reporting can not only direct public opinion, but create a favorable international environment. It is also an important way to build a good national image and demonstrate the soft power of a country. As China has become the world's second largest economy, it plays an increasingly important role on the international stage. How to introduce China to the world is a task with great significance, as well as difficulties, especially in times of disasters. In recent years, in the academic field, international news reporting is a widely discussed topic. However, the number of researches which studied disaster reporting in the light of international news reporting is quite limited. And few of them have extended to the most recent cases. Therefore, this paper chooses Tianjin Blasts which happened on August 12th,2015 as a case, and studies China Daily's reports on this disaster within one month. By analyzing the reports, this paper aims at presenting the current situation of China Daily in terms of covering disasters, so as to provide some guidance to this newspaper as well as other similar media for their future development.Through content analysis from seven aspects, including the quantity of reports, page layout, types of reports, angles of reports, etc., and discourse analysis on the first report about the incident, this study finds that China Daily is getting more mature in disaster reporting in terms of four aspects:diversity, objectivity, transparency and proximity. But there are still room for improvement, for example, the organization of some reports, layout and choice of news photos.
