Surface plasmon is a particular light wave which propagates along the surface.It has the characteristics of sub-wavelenth constraint,local field enhancement and anomalous dispersion. It has a very broad prospects in sensing application because of its high sensitivity when detect sample near metal surface.Fano resonance is initiated by different states of light interference causes narrow asymmetric lineshape,which can be used in laser,optical switching,nonlinear and slow light devices,it can also improve the performance of sensor.Surface plasmon and its application in sensing and performance as sensor,is discussed.As well as the throry of Fano resonance.Several structures which involve both surface plasmon and Fano resonance are discussed.A ring-cavity surface plasmon sensor which has Fano resonance is designed.The performance simulation of this device is realized by Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD)method.It has a good performance in sensitivity and FOM.Then a stub- rectangle defect cavity structure is analyzed.The performance in sensing is inhanced by change the parameter of stub,for example,location or number.
