400Hz power supplies have been widely applied in the ship arrows, aerospace,military and other fields. As the power supply of aircraft, the performance of 400 Hz power supply directly affects the operation security of the entire airborne equipment. Therefore, the rigorous power sources burn-in test and load test are required to ensure the reliability and stability of the power. By comparison with the traditional devices which consists of passive components, such as resistances, inductances and capacitors, the Power Electronics Load which consists of the semiconductor power switching devices is more flexible and stable. This paper studies on the Power Electronic Load System which can be used to test the performance of 400 Hz frequency power supply, then developed a set of 30 kVA experimental prototype system to support the experimental verification.Firstly, this paper has done a lot of research on the topology of PEL. The PEL with energy consumption is more economy and useful in simulating dynamic current reference.According to the circuit topology and theory of single-phase power electronic load, a concept of single-phase power electronic load module is presented in this paper. So the PEL device can be used to test single-phase power supplies and three-phase power supplies.In order to simulate load characteristic accurately, full-bridge VSR is used as the load simulation converter. The basic unit of the single-phase power electronic load module-PWM rectifier is analyzed deeply. AC filter inductance and DC capacitor have a great influence on the PEL System, so the design of their parameters is necessary.The method of load reference current generating and static error free tracking control of reference current have great influences on the simulation of load characteristic. This paper propose a generation method of current without using PLL. The method can generate current reference directly just according to the information of power supply voltage. So it is very simple and useful in systems with different power factor. PI controller can not track the current reference with zero steady-state error, however, PR controller can achieve it.Taking the fluctuation of AC voltage into consideration, a single-loop control strategy based on improved PR controller has been proposed. The value of the DC voltage will affect circuit system and the stability of the current loop. A hysteresis-loop control strategy has been proposed to maintain DC voltage in an appropriate value. The control strategyproved to be effective by simulation.On the basis of the software simulation, a 400 Hz power electronic load prototype has been built. The paper introduces the hardware system of single-phase power electronic load module. Several experiments results verify the 400 Hz power electronic loads system can adjust power factor and track dynamic current reference.
