With the evolution of retail banking services over years, banks have been continuously strengthening the building of infrastructure to support financial services, including but without limitation to, the integration of financial service channels and restructuring of bank branches network. As a result, financial services provided by banks have continued to shift from traditional network of physical branches to banking based on the internet, mobile phones and / or other electronic channels. However, given certain regulatory requirements governing financial services, some banking services are not allowed to be completed via such electronic channels. For example, when “witness services” are requested by bank customers, face-to-face interaction between the customers and bank representatives would be required. To meet such requirements, new equipment named Virtual Teller Machine(“VTM”, also known as remote video teller machine) has been invented to facilitate such face-to-face interaction. With VTM's, banks are enabled to provide HD video-based virtual remote services, through which bank customers contact bank representatives in the video service center through dedicated VTM's, and then via voice, video, and user interface, complete the desired transactions.VTMC is a control system run on the VTM's. The system uses traditional C/S architecture, object-oriented technology and service-oriented architecture. It relies on.NET platform. In addition to services that traditional ATM's provide, such as ATM withdrawals and inquiries, the VTM's are also able to provide new self-services for bank customers. To facilitate face-to-face services, VTMC uses the latest flat interface design which aims to simplify the steps to conduct business at the bank counter; in the meantime, through the employment of hardware such as ID card readers, video cameras etc., services traditionally provided at bank counters now can be perfectly completed on self-service equipment. VTMC uses component technology, which provides great advantages such as minimizing the necessary coupling between various modules, helping subsequent development of new services or new modules, significantly reducing the difficulty of subsequent development, and providing ease of maintenance and upgrades. SP(Service Provider) is a software of vendor services which was developed based on CEN / XFS(Extensions for Financial Services)protocol. It runs between hardware devices and VTMC application. When customers use VTM machines to complete banking transactions, VTMC handles the transaction logic and interact message with banks host; on the other hand it controls various hardware devices on the VTM by calling the SP.By VTMC and SP software users of the system are enabled to complete, on the VTM at any time, transactions which used to be possible only at bank counters during the banks' office hours. Transactions where users apply for bank cards were tested on the VTM. The test results show that VTMC provides a simple and user-friendly workflow while SP communicates effectively with the hardware; the desired objectives are achieved.
