Liquid crystal display(LCD) with its small size, low power consumption, no radiation and high image restoration degree, has replaced Cathode Ray Tube(CRT), become the mainstream of the display. Because liquid crystal display cannot certainly shine by itself, it needs the back-light module to ensure proper operation. With the LCD becoming thinner,more energy-efficient and environment friendly, the demand of edge light LED back-light will continue to increase. Light guide plate(LGP) as a key-component of edge light back light, its surface brightness and uniformity has great influence on the property of back-light.To fit the thinner back-light, the thickness of the LGP must be reduced, and the accuracy of the micro-structure on the surface of LGP must be increased. How to increase the property of LGP and improve the efficiency of LGP fabrication, has become the common subject of research. The main content of the thesis includes:(1) The market demand and development trend of light guide plate was investigated and the shortcoming of existing methods of LGP design and production was analyzed. Based on the research above, the work in this thesis is very meaningful.(2) The function of net dot fill rate was deduced based on the working principle. The LGP was divided into four categories according to the number of edge with light source,which were one edge mode, two edge mode, three edge mode and four edge mode. Different mode has different fill rate function.(3) A new net dot design algorithm based on image processing technology was presented, according to the characteristics of laser direct writing LGP. Besides, distribution of the netted dots was analyzed comparing with the the actual situation.(4) The correctness of the algorithm in this paper was verified by using the Trace Pro optical simulation software. At the same time, the distribution of dots could be optimized according to the simulated result.(5) A software used for laser direct writing LGP was developed using the net dot design algorithm in this paper.Finally, some suggestions and new research direction was put forward for the follow-up research.
