Infra-red Camera Trapping Information Management System Development And Its Application

Infra-red camera trapping technology is increasingly being used to monitor the distribution of animals and human disturbance with the attention on the management effectiveness of natrue reserve. In recent years, the infra-red camera trapping technology application is developed rapidly in China, but the unified critetria on infra-red camera animal monitoring need to be established urgently, and other bottleneck was lack of the standardize management procedure and fast data processing and analysis of infra-red camera photos and videos.We developed the infra-red camera trapping information management system including unified data collection content from the database level, developed mobile end for habitat acquisition subsystem by the Android platform for the infra-red camera setting position, developed desktop subsystem by the C# language for infrared camera data collation, species identification and data distribution, and published the datas globe through Google Earth.In the end, we took Songshan National Nature Reserve as a example. Using the infra-red camera trapping information management system, we used the software to process the raw infra-red camera trapping monitoring data in 2010, then identified species and published the result. We use the system to analyze the relationship between species and functional zones of the nature reserve and the distribution of mammals and birds. The result showed that the species of animals and the number of animals in the core zone were higher than the buffer zone, and those in the buffer zone was higher than the experimental zone and Dazhuangke village.Our system had provided a complete platform for infra-red camera trapping monitoring work which included standardizing data collection processes, uniforming data collection format, enhancing the ability of data analysis. It can greatly improve the digital information technology in nature reserve.
