Teacher burnout has become one of the core subjects of studies on teachers, which has raised common concerns in the fields of education and psychology both at home and abroad.Up to now there have been quite a lot excellent research results, providing great reference value for teacher education and professional development.Through literature review,it can be found that most of the previous research is aimed at university teachers, vocational college teachers,or primary and middle school teachers as a whole.Nevertheless, there is not much research towards high school teachers, not mention high school English teachers.Besides, the blank space of localized research on this topic also needs to be complemented. Therefore,it is of great necessity to systematically conduct an empirical research for the particular group of high school English teachers in Guizhou Province. From the numerous factors that may affect teacher burnout, this research choose to probe into the relation between teacher efficacy and burnout so as to deeply analyze its influence on teacher burnout, which can not only provide ideas and references for preventing the happening of teacher burnout or reducing its level, but also provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for in-service teacher education. The research subjects are 102 in-service teachers from 5 high schools in different districts of Guizhou Province.Combining the methods of questionnaire and interview, and using SPSS 22.0 statistical software to analyze data, this thesis is designed to answer three key research questions based on the theories of Bandura's teacher efficacy and Freudenberger's burnout: 1.What is the status quo of teacher efficacy and burnout among high school English teachers in Guizhou Province? 2.Are teacher efficacy and burnout significantly different when considering gender, age, educational degree, marital status, years of teaching and job title respectively? If yes, how? 3.Is there any relation between teacher efficacy and burnout? If there is,how do they affect each other? The results reveal that:1.The level of teacher efficacy is rather high among high school English teachers in Guizhou Province, where generally PTE is higher than GTE.Currently, the level of burnout among high school English teachers in Guizhou Province is generally not very serious, which is consistent with other domestic research.2.Considering demographic variables,it is shown that there are many significant differences in the dimension of PTE:(1)male teachers > female teachers;this is on the contrary to some domestic research.(2)married teachers with children > single teachers;(3)41 to 50 years old > under 30 years old, years of teaching between 16 to 25 years > 5 years of teaching and below, senior and special-grade teachers as well as first-grade teachers > second-grade teachers and below.Additionally,on the whole, the level of burnout among Guizhou high school English teachers between 41 to 50 years old is more serious than other groups. However, different from some other domestic research, there is no significant difference in the dimension of EE between male and female teachers.3.There is a significantly negative correlation between teacher efficacy and burnout among high school English teachers in Guizhou Province. In other words, the lower a teacher's efficacy is,the more serious his or her burnout is.In addition, the predictive effect of GTE to burnout is bigger than that of PTE and it is significantly negatively correlated to burnout.
