Ecological class is a kind of class that pays attention to personality development of the the main part,students,to realize the real unity of teaching and students’ development.This paper attempts to introduce “ecology” into English listening and speaking teaching in junior middle school,aiming to analyze and solve the current problems from a new perspective.It tries to change the traditional non-ecological problems in class like knowledge-orientation,teacher-center in order to promote students’ comprehensive development by cultivating their abilities of independent learning and cooperating.This research mainly includes the following aspects: Firstly,it analyzes and summarizes the relevant research and theoretical basis of ecological class at home and abroad to provide a theoretical basis.Secondly,from the perspective of ecological class,it investigates the current situation of listening and speaking teaching.Thirdly,this paper analyzes the current problems in listening and speaking teaching and the possible causes of these problems.And finally,based on the research above,it puts forward some suggestions to improve the current teaching of listening and speaking.400 students and 8 front-line teachers from No.55 Middle School and Dikuang Bilingual School in Luoyang,Henan Province are selected as the investigation subjects of this study.The author randomly picked students from different grades to finish the questionnaire and interviewed the English teachers of different ages from these two schools.In this investigation,400 questionnaires were sent out,and 387 valid ones were collected.The data were collected and analyzed with the help of SPSSAU in the software “Questionnaire Star”.It is found that there are some ecological tendencies in the current English listening and speaking teaching in junior middle school,but some problems also exist,which mainly lie in 4 aspects: students,teachers,teaching process and the environment.For example,based on the view of exam-oriented education,people pay more attention to the written scores while neglect the cultivation of students’ listening and speaking abilities.The equipping rate and usage rate of the teaching equipment is relatively low.The teaching process presents a lot of non-ecological phenomenon in teaching contents,teaching methods and evaluation methods,because of the lack of ecological thoughts of the educators.Besides,there is not enough ecological factor in teaching environment,such as appropriate class size and seats arrangements.The reasons are: Violation of Constructivism Theory,students lack learning Initiative;ignoring the Law of Limiting Factors,students have poor learning experience;disregarding the Law of Tolerance & Optimum Principle,teaching process is too mechanical and eager;violation of Flower Pot Effect,teaching content is out of step with social needs;wrong cognition of “Niche” leads to ecological imbalance.Finally,in the light of the concept of ecological class,some suggestions are put forward from the 4 components of ecological class: Establish a correct ecological view of students,give back the production right of knowledge to students;improve English teachers’ ecological teaching accomplishment and promote their professional development;develop the second life of teaching materials,making it close to life;control the rhythm of teaching;adopt the evaluation methods from different dimensions to promote students’ sustainable development;create a comfortable ecological teaching environment in different aspects.
