Listening is one of four basic skills in language learning,which plays a vital role in English teaching at senior high school.Listening teaching occupies an important position in language teaching.New English Curriculum Standards stresses clearly that English listening teaching should pay more attention to cultivating students'communicative ability and comprehensive capacity in senior high school.However,the current situation of senior English listening teaching is not positive.Most of teachers do not attach great importance to listening teaching and lack relative theories in this field.Students' interests in listening are not improved.and their listening ability is at the lower level.Therefore,to improve current situation of listening teaching at present,and enhance students' listening interests and motivations,the ecological approach is introduced into listening teaching in this thesis.Ecological approach is on the basis of humanistic theory and constructive theory and proposes that all of factors,such as students,teachers,psychological environments,physical environments and language etc.,should be taken into consideration.Ecological approach is based on the perspective of dynamic,balance and symbiosis to raise students' learning interests and motivations,adjust teaching method and make listening teaching model achieve sustainable development.Through experiment,the purpose of the thesis is to answer the following three research questions:(1)What are the current situations of English listening teaching in senior high school?(2)What impacts can ecological approach bring on students' interests and motivation in English listening teaching?(3)What effect does ecological approach has on students' English listening achievements?The participants are students from two classes at No.2 senior high school of GaiZhou,in Liao Ning province.One is considered as control class;the other one is regarded as experimental class.The total number of experimental class is 48,including 24 boys and 25 girls.The overall number of students is 49 in control class which contains 24 boys and 25 girls.The identical teaching materials are used in the two classes.The ecological approach is applied to the experimental class,while the traditional teaching methods are used in the control class.The experiment lasts for four months,and the research instruments are made of questionnaire,pre-test and post-test,and interview in the study.The result of this study shows that ecological approach has brought about great changes in students' listening interests and motivations.Students take positive attitudes to English listening,and their listening effects are improved definitely.It is embodied by the enhancement of English listening grades in experimental class gradually.The study indicates that ecological approach can be applied into English listening teaching in senior high school and bring positive impacts on students'listening interests and motivations,and listening effects.
