The traditional teaching methods always over-emphasize the transmission of knowledge of grammar and vocabulary,but ignore the development of students’ interest and ability of learning English.with the development of the national educational system reform,English teachers should change their traditional teaching models.Under this background,Multiple Intelligences theory provides a new idea.Howard Gardner points out that all the normal human beings have at least eight intelligences of different combination.In the teaching field,the main idea of Multiple Intelligences theory is in accordance with the idea of the national educational system reform.The theory emphasizes that students should arouse their unique intelligent characters during their study.Teachers should design more effective activities in and out of the classroom and take advantage of their intelligence in order to develop students’ interest and promot their self-study,which can also develop their disanvantaged intelligence,so that they can have a balanced development of every intelligences.Baced on Multiple Intelligences theory and the national educational system reform,this paper discusses the teacher’ s guiding role in English listening and speaking class in senior middle school.Before the experiment,the author will analyze the background of the study from two aspects-the national educational system reform in Shenzhen and the specialty of the English teaching in senior high,as well as the aim,method and structure of the study.And then expound all the important theories of teacher’s role in and abroad.Chapter 4 is a detailed introduction of theoretical basis of the study,especially teacher’s guiding role in English listening and speaking class.Having studied Multiple Intelligences theory,the author chose a senior art class,and targeted teacher’s guiding role in listening and speaking class based on the new curriculum reform and conducted an experiment.The teaching plan was intended to apply Multiple Intelligences theory to the English listening and speaking.Combined with a variety of methods,the researcher did the teaching experiment by a careful design teaching plan,applying the theory of multiple intelligences in senior high school English classroom teaching.The students’listening and speaking skills was tested,and their emotional change was understood using questionnaire investigation and observation method,After the analysis of experimental results and data,the author found that teacher’s guiding role effects students’ language acquisition and emotional in the English teaching process,playing a positive role in improving students’ listening and speaking skills.The author also analyses the problems found in teaching experiment,and discusses the further improvement of this role.In practice,the experiment is conducted on a group of students in senior high school of Shenzhen,which also provide a possible reference for English curriculum reform of listening and speaking in developed region of China.
