In 2017,some provinces and cities have implemented the reform of the socialized college entrance examination, and the English “listening and speaking test”are also included in the scope of assessment. And the Guangdong Provincial Listening and Speaking Test increased the proportion of listening and speaking scores,so more focus on writing and less focus on speaking has not adapted to the times and the needs of students. The proposal of the new college entrance examination and the new curriculum standards highlight English listening, speaking, reading and writing combined into the comprehensive assessment system. It not only “more prominently emphasizes the examination of comprehensive language abilities, but also further reflects the propositional guiding ideology that the use of language communication functions in a vivid context”(Hou Yangping,2017).Therefore,it’s of great significance to understand the mastery and use of students’ listening and speaking strategies, cultivate students’ awareness of listening and speaking strategies, and guide listening and speaking strategies.Basing on language learning strategies, autonomous learning theory and constructivism, this study took 361 senior high school students from Grade One to Grade Three and 10 English teachers from Lianjiang Senior High School and Xinhui Liang Qichao Memorial Senior High School in Guangdong Province as the research objects. With the research tools of thinking aloud, interview, and questionnaire developed the English listening and speaking strategy questionnaire proposed by Oxford, the study aims to answer the following research questions:(1)What are the overall situations of the English listening and speaking learning strategies used by most senior high school students?(2)What are the differences in English listening and speaking strategies used between male and female students, efficient and inefficient English learners?Research results indicates that:(1)the senior high school students in these two schools use listening and speaking strategies at a medium level, and the frequency of strategy use is as follows: compensation strategy, social strategy, cognitive strategy,meta-cognitive strategy, affective strategy;(2)there is a obvious correlation between English academic achievement and English listening and speaking strategies, and the developed students master more listening and speaking strategies, skilled in using different strategies with good results;(3)there are obvious differences in listening and speaking strategies used by students of different language levels, while there are few differences in listening and speaking strategies of students of different genders.According to the research findings, the study puts forward corresponding suggestions for the problems existing in the English listening and speaking of senior high school students:(1)for teachers, they should guide students to know their own strategy uses, instruct listening and speaking strategies, create authentic communication context, and cultivate students’ internal English listening and speaking motivation;(2)for students, they should improve strategic awareness, cultivate listening and speaking strategies in autonomous learning, and improve the comprehensive ability of English. However, there are some deficiencies in this study:the research subjects are students and teachers from only two schools, and the number of subjects in each grade is unevenly distributed, and the data may not representative;the think aloud test is slightly complicated, the data statistical analysis still needs to explore deeply. The suggestions for further study:(1)expand the sample data to study the listening and speaking strategies used by different grades and regions and based on Computer-based listening and speaking test in NCEE;(2)study the process of listening and speaking strategy among students of different genders and language levels;(3)deepen the analysis of listening and speaking strategy uses with TAPs.
