With the development of the society,many young parents are under more and more economic pressure,the time to take care of and educate their children is obviously insufficient,and the young parents work later than their children.In result of this,a large number of teenagers in an unsupervised institution after school.In addition to the increasing complexity of the social security situation,parents do not feel comfortable leaving their children at home alone.In order to prevent and reduce problematic behavior among young people at this stage,the United States has implemented after-school programs to provide rich learning opportunities for low-income families and children in weak schools.In order to carrying out it,the United States is making policies and investing money to it.In some aspect,for example,the organization security,the concrete implementation aspect has carried out a series of fruitful attempts,and has obtained the positive result and the influence.This article mainly carries on the elaboration and the comment to the American after school plan implementation and the influence to the youth,In order to provide reference for our country’s extracurricular education.This paper consists of five chapters.Firstly,it is the introduction,which mainly describes the reason to choose this topic,the meaning of this study.Reviewed of the domestic and foreign research on after-school education,and the innovation of this article and the methods of this research.it introduces the development of after-school programs in the United States,including the background and development of the program.Because of the changes in family’s structure that prevent mothers from taking care of their children at home,the frequent occurrence of juvenile delinquency and dangerous activities after school,and the government is urgently to solve this problem,so the after-school program comes into being.Secondly it describes the basic situation of the afterschool program,including the characteristics of students who participate in the program,and then introduces the operation time,type,the place to develop and the staff of the after school program,funds and the standard of the program.Thirdly it describes the impact of the after-school program,including on students’ academic performance,classroom attendance,reducing crime and dangerous behaviour,improvingstudents’ self-confidence.Finally,the paper introduces the participation rate of students in the top 10 states of the United States,the satisfaction of parents,the allocation of funds,the proportion of state plans to open hours and the proportion of quality care programs.And then it summarizes the characteristics of after-school programs which have a positive impact on students,including: stable sources of funds,clear goals of after-school education,and the protection of the nation.Lastly it describes the enlightenment of American after-school program to our country: increasing the investment in the funds of after-school education,defining the educational goal,enriching the content and form of after-school education,and institutionalizing after-school education.
