The newly revised <Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards of Mathematics(2011)> said “We should help students to understand and learn basic knowledge and techniques of mathematics,to know and use logic and methodology of math,to acquire basic practical experience of math.” As one of basic thoughts of mathematics,modeling thoughts can abstract mathematical problems from the actual scene,and describe the quantitative relation and change rule by mathematical symbols.Furthermore,we can obtain the results and discuss the significance of mathematical problems in the process.Modeling thoughts are effective for guiding students to understand abstract problems,so studying how to use model thoughts in math teaching aligns with teaching methodology that advocated by curriculum standards.Junior high school students mostly acquire knowledge about mathematics through schools' education.Textbooks are sources for students to acquire systematic knowledge and tools of teaching for teachers,so modeling thoughts shall be examined based on textbooks.Content of mathematics textbooks of Shandong Education Press for junior high schools are summarized based on thoughts of simplification,quantification,functions,equations,optimization,randomness,sampling and statistics.All sections,exercises and chapters involving modeling thoughts are categorized under various categories derived from modeling thoughts,and analyzing which parts should be incorporated into modeling thoughts.In light of integration of modeling thoughts into teaching of mathematics in junior high schools,a questionnaire survey and an interview are performed on students and teachers of a junior high school of Yantai,so as to understand students' and teachers' knowledge about modeling thoughts.According to the research findings,both students and teachers don't understand modeling thoughts thoroughly.Based on the questions mentioned,this paper studies the use of modeling thoughts in junior high school math teaching.According to the investigation,this paper puts forward some suggestions on the shortcomings and problems of the modeling thoughts into the present situation of mathematics teaching in junior middle school.Integrating these suggestions and referring to the teaching method of an excellent teacher in Yantai thirteenth middleschool,we put forward a set of specific teaching designs to discuss how to integrate modeling thoughts into junior middle school mathematics teaching.And analyzing case “The Application of Linear Equation in One Unknown” and “The probability of a possible event” which can guide model thoughts teaching.In this survey,content of textbooks covering modeling thoughts is classified and summarized,the outlines of textbooks for presenting modeling thoughts are introduced,and a complete teaching designs are put forward,so as to provide a systematic reference for teaching of many educators and arouse junior high school students' and teachers' concerns about these thoughts.
