The Application Of English Picture Books In Primary School English Teaching | | Posted on:2018-11-07 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y C Shi | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2347330542462601 | Subject:Education | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | It is critical for students to learn a foreign language in primary school.It is an important part of elementary education to provide foreign language courses in primary school.However,there are relatively few teaching resources besides textbooks in primary English teaching.Some students do not have much interest in learning English.It is surely required a lot of input to learn any kind of language.Therefore,it is necessary for teachers to develop and use the English learning resources creatively in actual life.New Curriculum Standard for Primary School English(2011 Edition)points out that teachers should enrich the curriculum resources and expand the channels of English learning.With the introduction of English picture books in recent years,more and more educators realize that it could cultivate children’ s English learning interest and ability,and its value in English teaching practice.More and more English reading practice about picture books has been carried out.However,there are problems,such as how to convert these books into the available teaching and curriculum resources,combining with the characteristics of children’ s body and mind to carry out the effective English teaching,which are worthy of study.Based on the following theories of Multiliteracies from the multi-mode part,Language Input Hypothesis Theory of Krashen,Cognitive PragmaticTheory of Jean Piaget,the study focuses on the possibility of applying picture books in primary school English teaching to improve students’ interest and learning effect.Experimental teaching method is used in this study and Class One and Class Two in Inner Mongolia Hangtian Primary School are chosen as the experimental class and the control class respectively.The experiment plan of picture books is designed and the experimental period lasts for one semester.Tests and interviews are applied to study and investigate the application of English picture book teaching in the primary school.SPSS18.0 statistical software is used for the data statistics.The results of statistics show that students’ proficiency of English speaking and reading has a great progress in the experimental class after using the English picture books.English listening and writing levels have been not significantly improved in a short period,but have a certain degree of improvement compared with the control class.In the learning interest and emotional experience interview,the result shows that the most of the pupils in the experimental class has produced active effects on learning interest and emotional experience.Based on statistical results,English picture books,as a supplement to the curriculum resources,are proposed to combine with the current teaching materials and applied to improve the pupils’ achievement of English listening,speaking,reading and writing skills.The theoretical significance of this study is to provide more information for the research field of picturebooks and draw more attention to picture books’ application in English teaching.Moreover,the result of the study is helpful for teachers to change their teaching concepts,set up a people-oriented,and promote curriculum development and students’ viewpoints.The practical significance of this study lies in that the teaching of picture books can enrich students’ curriculum resources,improve the teaching effect,stimulate students’ interest and enhance their confidence in English learning.In the end,the study provides suggestion for teachers’ application of English picture books and researchers’ further studies. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | picture book, achievement of listening, speaking, reading and writing, primary school English, grade 5 students | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
