The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(2011 edition)requires teachers should design activities to stimulate students' interest and help students specify the learning objectives at the beginning of each class,so as to prepare for the following procedures.Therfore,the textbook published by People's Education Press(PEP)designs the “warming-up” for every unit to motivate students.As a school-based research,the study takes Xi'an Foreign Language High School(XFLHS)as an example,and it focus on the lead-in in English reading class.Based on the Theory of Social Constructivism,Affective Filter Hypothesis and Language Input Hypothesis,the author finds out the problems in lead-in by questionnaire for students,classroom observation,and then the author explores the reasons of these problems by interview for teachers.At last the author puts forward the suggestions to solve these problems.There are several problems in lead-in,such as teachers' inappropriate control for time,improper methods,and insufficient management.The causes of the problems are little knowledge concerning lead-in,overloaded trivial work,and low ability of integration for materials.Finally,the study provides some suggestionsto help their teaching effective increasingly.
