| Multiple evaluations are the way to use more than two methods to evaluate students’ performances, and which focus on multiple evaluation subjects, multiple evaluation contents, etc.instead of evaluating students by only the final test.It is unequivocally required in the National English Curriculum for compulsory education issued in 2011,that summative assessment should be combined with formative assessment in the instructional assessment for primary school students;emphasizing both the process and the result of the English learning for appropriate unification of the evaluation. However, the author has found that the current student assessment applied in primary schools goes against the 2011 National English Curriculum, for example, the singularities in the subjects to be assessed,in the contents for assessment, and in the assessment methods and approaches. In order to have a further understanding of the application of multiple evaluations in primary schools English teaching, the author has done qualitative research with the support of multiple intelligence theory and constructive theory by means of questionnaires, interviews and classroom observations to answer these three questions that the author has put forward in the thesis. The results of the research show that teachers’ oral evaluation is still the main way to evaluate students, their final scores also play a very important part in teachers’ teaching and students’ learning and there is little chance for students to participate in the process of evaluation. Some teachers have tried to apply multiple evaluations in their classes, due to the lack of full understanding of multiple evaluations, there exist many problems during the real application such as it is hard to control the class and some teachers are confused when they choose different evaluation ways.As for these problems occurred in the application, the author has put forward some alternative solutions,in the hope of helping teachers and students to apply multiple evaluations effectively and improving teachers’ teaching efficiencies. This thesis mainly consists of the following parts: the first part is about literature review, which introduces some related theories, concepts, and the status quo of researches of both at home and abroad;the second part is about the research plan;the third part is about the analyses and discussions of the collected data which indicate the existing problems in multiple evaluations;and the fourth part is about the solutions to the problems which has been put forward in the third part. Finally,it still needs big efforts to the effective application of multiple evaluations in primary schools,so some expectationsof further research have been put forward. |
