Caiyuanpei's Moral Education Thought And Significances In Modern Time

CaiYuanpei is a famous democratic revolutionist, educator and ideologist in Chinese modern history, he lived in the time when China had gone through various disasters. As one of the outstanding representatives among the patriotic intellectuals, he explored and struggled unremittingly in order to find the out-way for China, he made a tremendous contribution to the culture, education and democratic revolution. Cai has exerted a far-reaching influence on the history of Chinese education in view of his rich and diversified educational ideas. In particular, his moral education thought is still a valuable cultural heritage. Cai's superior moral education system is still very meaningful for the development of contemporary moral education. This article analyzes contemporary moral thought from the perspective of Cai's moral education thought; inherits Cai's moral education thought selectively and summarizes its significance.The first part analyzes and summarizes the background of Cai's moral education thought from the perspective of his family background, social background and his own cultural background. The second part summarizes the system of Cai's moral education thought which includes the moral target of establishing a correct outlook on life and learning concept; the moral purpose of liberty, equality, fraternity; the importance of moral education; the moral principle of developing public morality, initiating self-management, exerting effect of every factor; the moral method of right crop for right time, practice-oriented, multi-pronged approach, progressive education. The third part evaluates Cai's moral education thought objectively. It analyzess and summarizes the historical value and the limitations of his moral thought. The fourth part presents modern significances of Cai's moral education thought on the basis of understanding his moral education thoughts system. Then it proposes suggestions to strengthen and improve moral education and innovate Chinese moral education thought from the perspective of integrating Chinese and Western thought.
