| China’s ongoing reform of basic education curriculum stresses students’ comprehensive and harmonious development,which is for all students and based on the "student-oriented"idea.According to the spirit of this reform,the English Curriculum Standard(2001)requires the English curriculum consider students’ learning interest,their life experience and cognitive level.Under this curriculum’s guidance,English class aims to develop students’ comprehensive capability of using English properly and improve their cross-cultural awareness and autonomous learning ability.In order to break through the traditional teaching pattern and cultivate students’ all-round development,the Guided Learning Plan(GLP)was brought into being.The GLP is a kind of learning program designed by teachers to instruct students to construct knowledge actively and help them to be the masters of learning.GLPs have been proved helpful for teaching in some degree.However,there are some problems in GLPs’ design,applying and evaluating.By analyzing literature from home and abroad,this thesis gives a brief introduction of the GLP,including the definitions,features,functions,principles of the design and the related theories.Based on the autonomous learning theory,humanism and schema theory,this research mainly studies GLPs’ design.Questionnaires,interview and literature analysis are the research instruments.This study takes the GLPs of Wu Cun Village Junior Middle School in Tianyang County as a case study.98 students in Grade Seven from Wu Cun Village Junior Middle School were required to complete questionnaires.6 students were interviewed randomly and 3 English teachers also took part in the interviews.At the same time,the study mainly analyzed present GLPs of Grade Seven.This study mainly finds that the quality of present GLPs is uneven and most of them are beyond students’ ability.There are so many exercises in some GLPs,which cannot be finished by students on time.What’s more,some GLPs do not provide guidance for learning or sometimes the learning objectives are simple.Thus,the author suggests there should be a group of teachers to take charge of GLPs.This group of teachers can design GLPs together and supervise each other.The learning objectives in GLPs should be clear and simplified and students’ learning ability should be taken into consideration.However,there are some insufficiencies in this study for the scope of this research is small and the suggestions have not been put into tests.It would be better if there were more researches to put these suggestions into tests and improve them constantly. |
