A Study On Junior High School Students' Attitudes Towards English Learning

English learning attitude is very important in junior high school English teaching.However,in actual English teaching,teachers always ignore the individual differences of students' English learning attitudes.New curriculum requires that teaching should meet the needs of all the students,and teachers should pay attention to the individual differences.Therefore,in junior middle school English teaching,the correlation between individual differences of students' attitudes and English learning should be taken into consideration.Students' attitudes towards English learning affect their individual behavior.By learning about students' different English learning attitudes,the teacher can timely find the existing problems in students' English learning attitudes and find out the effective way to guide the junior high school students to form a good attitude towards English learning,which helps students with different English learning attitudes to improve their English.This paper is based on the attitude ternary theory proposed by American social psychologists Rosenberg and Hoveland.This theory is also called attitude A-B-C three-dimensional structure one.The survey was carried out among 228 students from grade one in Taiyuan Wan Bailin No.3 junior high school.These students' English learning attitudes questionnaires are collected.Besides,the four English grades are also collected in different periods.After collection,211 valid questionnaires were obtained and used in the final statistical analysis.The following research questions are discussed: 1.What is the general situation of junior high school students' English learning attitudes? 2.From the perspective of gender,are there any differences in the English learning attitudes of boys and girls in the three dimensions of affection,behavior and cognition? If so,what are they? 3.From the point of view of English proficiency,are there any differences in the English learning attitudes of high-level group and low-level group in the three dimensions of affection,behavior and cognition? How are these differences distributed in these three dimensions? In order to study these research questions,spss 17.0 statistical software is used to analyze the collected data and discuss the distribution and difference of students' English learning attitudes in three dimensions,ten items and fifty attitude subitems.Findings are that: 1.Junior high school students' English learning attitude is good as a whole,especially in the understanding of the purpose and significance in learning,the understanding of grades and behavior of studying for exams.2.From the perspective of gender,there are significant differences not only in the English learning attitudes of boys and girls in the three dimensions of affection,behavior and cognition,but in the ten items,and on the whole,the girl's English learning attitude is better than that of boys,especially in the behavior dimension,the understanding of the purpose and significance in learning,the behavior of ruling out difficulties in learning and the behavior of resisting interference in learning.3.From the point of view of English proficiency,the English learning attitude of high-level group and low-level group is significantly different in the three dimensions of affection,behavior and cognition,and these ten items,and the English learning attitude of high-level group is obviously better than that of low-level group,especially in the behavior dimension,intellectual curiosity,the behavior of ruling out difficulties in learning and the mastery of learning methods.In addition,the author found that nearly half of the students feel anxious because of English teachers' questioning in class.Based on the above results of analysis,some referential suggestions are put forward for English teaching,and the advice is also suggested according to the features of English learning attitude in different dimensions and different items.This study aims to understand the current situation of junior high school students' English learning attitudes and to provide relevant reference suggestions and guidance for teachers to teach students according to their attitudes.
