The Comparative Analysis Of Chinese Overseas Student's Media Image Under The Guidance Of Frame Theory

The People's Daily is the official media of China,its news enjoy the characters of authority and significance.The Zaobao is a mainly market-oriented media in Singapore,it has widely distributed audience all over the world.The report object of Zaobao is not only the Chinese mainland students studying in Singapore,but in America,English,Japan,Korea,etc.Therefore,this paper chooses relative news which come from the People's Daily and Zaobao to know about the characters of Chinese mainland overseas student's media image in reports and the news frame of Chinese and Singaporean media.This study finds that the media image of Chinese mainland overseas students constructed by People's Daily can be summarized as positive,deep patriotic,academic excellent and independent.However,the student's image in Zaobao can be generalized as multi-dimensional,both positive and negative.Taking the events,Chinese overseas students join in the torch relay activity,for example.The People's Daily sets “harmony” frame and “patriot” frame,but Zaobao sets “chaos”“extremely patriotic”“stalemate between students and police” three kinds of frame.Thus the People's Daily shapes a patriotic,passionate image for Chinese overseas students,while Zaobao shapes a irrational,extremely patriotic image for Chinese overseas students.On the whole,Chinese mainland overseas student's media image shaped by People's Daily is perfect.“honor”frame and “patriotic” frame occupy one third,the proportion of “regulate”frame and “morality” frame is smaller.Zaobao sets too many kinds of frame in news report.“extremely patriotic” frame unfold Chinese student's love for motherland,but the angle of reporting towards negative,the news is less objective.In addition,Zaobao applys much News Comment form,but less Information form,which causes much subjectivity than objectivity in the process of reporting.
