The Influence Of Resources And Interaction On Status Belief

This research is trying to explore the members' perception of the status belief on each rank position in different groups, the creation,development,and maintain of status belief in different small groups in micro level.This paper also focuses on how material resources and interactive experience influences on status belief.The whole research which is based on status construction theory and combined with expectation state theory is starting from the concern of social inequality problem .Status construction theory argues that the interaction between the individuals with different resource which came from different groups would form status beliefs favor the advantage group,the individuals could take status belief to evaluate each other in the interaction.this research proposed a series of hypotheses and proved them based on the theory. Experimental results show that the members in advantage group who take part in the interaction directly will form the status belief which favors themselves,consider the members of their own group as more compete and valuable under the different resources condition, the members in disadvantage group will form the status belief which favors partner in interaction,consider partners as more compete and valuable ones in orientation encounters of thelocal context. The individuals who are not directly involved in the process of interaction could form the corresponding status beliefs only by observing how the members of other group treat their own members of the group in the same local context. Besides that, the advantages perform more strongly, the disadvantaged perform weakly during the task. The advantages wouldn't change the status belief of their own group when they interact with a partner who comes from another group but owes similar resource with them. In addition, this study also expanded the theoretical connotation of status construction theory, pointed out that the disadvantages wouldn't admit their partners are better any more because they control similar resource with their partners who come from the advantage group.They may reduce the acceptance of their own group meanwhile they still admit their own group remaining disadvantage status. The comparative results show that the individuals who have experienced the real interaction can form the cultural beliefs of different groups. The members of disadvantage group pay more attention to the consistency of task group than the members of the advantage group.The social activity of the advantage group is higher than that of the disadvantage group. Based on the experimental results, it can be found that the status hierarchy and the members'tatus beliefs of each group were born in the process of interaction, which gave birth to the emergence of social inequality. Social inequality promote the advantage members of disadvantage group to endeavor membership of advantage group in return.
