Classroom teaching is a main kind of school education and teaching effectiveness is directly related to students’ learning results.Nowadays,there are some points which need to be improved in present senior high school teaching.Moreover,the number of studies and works on effective teaching differences between ordinary high school and key high school is relatively small.This study is based on the Constructivism Learning Theory,Teaching Process Optimization Theory and Meaningful Learning Theory.Moreover,it is also based on the comments and review of current situation of domestic and foreign researches of effective teaching and effective teaching standards.Respondents are 120 English teachers of four high schools in Dezhou city of Shandong Province,including two ordinary senior high schools and two key senior high schools.Research tools are questionnaires and interview on English teachers,for the purpose of researching:first,the situation of teachers’ teaching effectiveness;second,the differences between ordinary senior high school and key senior high school;third,reasons for the differences.According to Yao Limin’s evaluation indexes of effective teaching,the results of questionnaire and interviews on teachers’ effective teaching shows:1)generally speaking,in teaching knowledge,auxiliary teaching and management of teaching,English teachers’teaching is usually effective;2)teachers’ teaching effectiveness in ordinary high school is lower than that in key high school,such as adaptive teaching,creating appropriate classroom environment,organizing class discussion,nonverbal teaching,etc;3)according to the analysis of data,the author find out the reasons for the differences between key high school and ordinary high school from the perspective of teachers and students.Based on the classification of Yao Limin’s effective teaching strategies and the results of the study,the author points out the places that can be modified and improved by English teachers from instructional teaching,auxiliary teaching and management of teaching.Then propose corresponding suggestions from instructional teaching,auxiliary teaching strategy and management of teaching,according to the shortcomings of senior high school.
