As a permanent subject in education field, effective teaching has received wideattention from educational practitioners and researchers since education activitiesbegan. It is the very motivation of improving teaching quality and effect thatmotivates all educators to research and explore the forms of effective teaching andhave produced abundant theories of effective teaching. The research of effectiveteaching began in 1990s, and the present research is lack of thorough systematicconstruction, most of which were introduction of foreign theories and achievements ofeffective teaching. There is no specific research about domestic classroom teachingand no independent discipline formed. In actual teaching practice, there is no detailedguidance and procedures to follow. With the development of world economy and advancement of technology,English is becoming more and more important. As a very important part of theelementary education, English teaching is paid more and more attention since the newcurriculum reform. English in junior high school, as the transitional period of seniorhigh school study, plays a very important role in the whole study process and hasprofound effect on the successive study that cannot be neglected. And Englishteaching in junior high school has been reformed greatly and many considerableachievements have been attained. But still, the current English teaching is not verysatisfactory and there are many problems existing that are not in concord to therequirements of our times. For example, teachers play a main role during class andjust teach knowledge of pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence structure, etc. andpay no attention of students’abilities in linguistic performance in real contexts, not tomention their abilities in independent learning and innovation. All is far from the newcurriculum standard requirements. So under the circumstance of the new curriculumreform, it’s vital to explore the characteristics of English study and students of juniorhigh school, change current teaching concepts and models and achieve effectiveteaching. As the organizer and executor of teaching activities, teachers play the essentialrole in creating and realizing effective English teaching. To solve this problem, teachers are required to know and master concepts of effective teaching and applythem in the real English teaching process. So, launching research of effective teachingcan help teachers fully utilize teaching time to cultivate students’comprehensiveabilities and promote their development. This paper aims to find out problems existing in current English classroomteaching which includes: 1) teachers’backward teaching concepts and lack ofcapacities. Some English teachers’teaching concepts are still in the test level, thinking of English teaching as only teaching the textbook knowledge. And also, some of them are of narrowed knowledge, single knowledge structure and lake ofprofessional abilities in science and technology. 2) students’low learning ability andefficiency. 3) simple and single teaching evaluation. Exams and tests are the onlymeans to evaluate students. Only scholastic attainment is evaluated and students’emotions, attitudes and social competence are ignored. And what is evaluated is justabout simple knowledge and skills in defiance of students’subjectivity as learners. With consideration of problems mentioned above, this thesis makes teachers, theorganizer and executor of English teaching activities, as the pointcut, concepts andstandards of effective teaching as the basis and puts forwards strategies to constructeffective English teaching classroom from perspectives of teaching preparations, implement and evaluation, with the aim of providing a little theoretical and practicalreflection and reference for English teaching in junior high schools. At the end of thisthesis, the limitations of this study have been pointed out and suggestions for furtherstudies of effective teaching have been put forward.
