With the society and science advancing,learning English is becoming more and more important.The English in primary school is the special stage in English learning,so its aim of cultivating students'language is not equal to the teaching of other subjects,not equivalent to the English teaching of junior and senior high school.The English in primary school is an important initial stage in the process of learning English for students.There are some primary schools in the remote areas of Inner Mongolia,and English teaching conditions in primary school are limited.There are no foreign teachers and more English resources for teachers and students to enjoy.But at present,there are some common problems in primary school.Students are not interested in learning English,because of learning a second language without language environment.Students dare not speak English in class.Students who can't read are not willing to take the initiative to ask for help.After each exam,students' English scores are very general,The English teacher is very worried them about.So English teachers have to change English methodology.The English dialogue in English class will need at least two people acting the dialogue between students,and students need mutual learning and mutual cooperation.Therefore,the group cooperative learning is a kind of teaching strategy,which can solve above problems existed English teaching in the primary school.Group cooperative learning can arouse students' interest in learning English and improve their English scores.According to new curriculmn,the purpose of learning English in primary school is to cultivate students' interest in learning English and apply learned contents into practice,and the focus of.English teaching is to cultivate students' ability to speak and communicate in English.Therefore,in the process of English teaching in primary school,students'interest should be inspired and cultivated,which enables students to love English,develop a good habit of learning,and teach the students methods of learning English.Teachers should always pay attention to the students'ability of learning and cultivating English.The consciousness of self-learning helps to cultivate their cooperative ability.In the group activities,students are allowed to cooperate with each other,participate in learning actively,making them immersed in the atmosphere of the English language,and making them learn English,use English,love English.At present,there are much more researches with regard to group cooperative learning of Primary English in Inner Mongolia.The innovation of thesis is that group cooperative learning applied in primary English teaching effectively has been investigated,so that it can be seen whether group cooperative learning is helpful to cultivate students,interest and enhance English scores of students.The author takes Constructivism,Cooperative learning theory,Cognitive theory,and Humanistic Psychology as the theoretical basis,referring to the researches of group cooperation at home and abroad,and combined with the current teaching practice in primary school.The\writer does an experiment to find out whether group cooperative learning helps to cultivate the students' interest and improves the scores of English.The subjects are the students of Grade Five who are chosen from No 4 Primary School of a small town in the remote area of Ordos City,the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.The instruments of the investigation are questionnaires and experiment.The main research questions are:(1)Whether students' learning interest and initiative of English will be aroused and promoted greatly with the help of group cooperative learning?(2)Whether the scores of students' English will be improved greatly?The data are analyzed with the help of SPSS 17.0.The conclusions are:Teachers apply group cooperative learning into Primary English class.Students' learning interest and initiative of English are aroused and promoted slightly with the help of group cooperative learning and scores of students' English are greatly improved.The study is of great value to English teaching in primary school and some schools where group cooperative learning hasn't been applied.
