The key to learn English well is keeping a positive attitude. The mode of group cooperative learning in English class of primary school is able to arouse student’s interests, guide them to convert the interests into stable learning motives gradually, prompt their building of confidence, as well as cultivate an attitude of cooperation with others and characters of harmony health and positivity. Moreover, combine the group cooperative learning with inquiry learning and self-study can inspire students’ initiative, activate the class atmosphere, improve their scores and developing their ability of cooperation and innovation. Therefore, how to carry out group cooperative learning and whether it can improve pupils’ scores and cultivate their cooperative consciousness is the key point of this research.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the statement of research background, purpose, approach and the literature review. It also presents the conceptual boundary of group cooperative learning,and the literature review which makes classification and analysis on the elements, methods, effects, comments and strategies of group cooperative learning. The research background includes the requirement of the curriculum reform current situation of group cooperative learning and pupils’ cognitive features. The second part is relevant theoretical basis. The third part focuses on the research process. It contains many concrete procedures of the selecting of research objects, grouping, teachers’ lessons preparation and group evaluation. The fourth part presents the research results and discussion. It conducts analysis and discussion based on class observation and students’ scores. The fifth part is conclusion and advice which summarizes the drawbacks and perspective works for this research.As an intern in A Primary School,the author takes students in Class Six Grade Three as research objects to study the application of group cooperative learning in English class for pupils. The results show that the cooperative group learning has improved students’ scores, cultivated their cooperative consciousness, prolonged their studying time and strengthened their confidence.To make sure the effective implementation of group cooperative learning, some suggestions are given as follows: teachers should learn theory about group cooperative learning, update teaching ideas and prepare lessons adequately.
