The Respect Of Teachers For Students:Defense,Investigation,Reflection And Reconstruction

Teachers' respect for students plays an important part in education.All students have basic human rights,and enjoy absolute dignity and absolute value which can't be violated,they have every reason to expect to be respected by teachers.The concept of respect for students has been widely advocated,however,behaviors going against this concept are still common in reality.Therefore,any attention given to this problem has strong practical significance.There is previous research with a normative analysis of this topic,but relevant empirical research is still relatively limited.Based on this,this study starts from the value of respect for students.In order to investigate the current situation,and reflect teachers' cognitive mistakes,a small-scale qualitative study was carried out based on a semester's worth of participatory observation in middle school J in Shanghai,which included in-depth interviews with 20 teachers?16 students and 86 cases.The study found that,for the students,being respected by teachers is of strong appeal,mainly in four aspects:firstly,their human dignity can't be violated;secondly,their educational right can't be deprived;thirdly,students should obtain comprehensive development and equal treatment;and fourthly,every student should be evaluated impartially.However,there are three mistaken ideas in teachers'cognition of "the respect for students":firstly,influenced by traditional ideas,some teachers believe that "respect" means students are required to respect teachers,therefore" the respect for students" is considered as a harsh requirement.;secondly,students need love from teachers instead of "respect";thirdly,"label"behavior of teachers still exists in schools,thus not all the students are included in the scope of being respected.Above all,in order to truly achieve the respect of teachers for students,we need to reconstruct and establish the "recognition respect",which means every student should be treated equally,everyone should enjoy the dignity and right,as the basic position of education.Therefore,there are three principles which need to be applied in practice for teachers.Firstly,keeping a cautious attitude towards students should be taken as a premise,teachers should learn to strengthen self-esteem,put themselves in students' shoes and optimize the management of emotions.Secondly,grasp positive methods of teaching plays a key role,teachers should learn to enhance students'ability of self-control,regulate their punitive behaviors and follow the ethical evaluation.Thirdly,keeping self-reflection consciously can be a motivation.Teachers will obtain sustained motivation through improving their moral cultivation and strengthening self-reflection.
