Tennis is a skill-dominant antagonistic event of netting sport, which one party restricts other party back to ball movement effectively. With high development of tennis technique, the importance of footwork ability is more and more highlighted in the competition process. It provides a powerful guarantee for both technical movements of cohesion and cooperated performance of tactics.Many coaches mainly pay attention to basic technical reaching in daily tennis teaching and training, but do not focus on tennis footwork training. As a coach, he should change himself and trainee's traditional training idea and makes tennis trainee attach great importance to the mastery and practice of tennis footwork ability in the training process. Tennis player should have a good knowledge of footwork movement technique and pay attention to the importance of footwork training.This dissertation employed several research methods, such as literature method, experimental method, expert interview and mathematical statistics etc. And it chose twenty-four boys who majored in tennis(From Wading international college of Kong) as experimental subjects, then divided them into two groups, one was an experimental group and the other was a control group. The experimental training lasted three months, and made research on footwork training application in professional tennis teaching of institute of physical education. Some conclusions were made as follows:Research results:1. Students whose major are physical education in institute of physical education specializing in tennis had improved significantly in fan running time and footwork movement ability after twelve weeks, and their increased range were higher than students in control group. This result indicated that footwork training not only can improve students' physical quality, but also can enhance students' interest in tennis project.2. After twelve-week footwork training, Students whose major are physical education in institute of physical education specializing in tennis got an in-bound score in hitting the ball on site, two meters movement of forehead and backhead shot, and four meters of forehead and backhead shot.Moreover, their success rate of hitting the ball was significantly higher than students in control group, while error rate was much lower than control group. These results showed that footwork training can improve accuracy and validity of students' moving hitting skills, and can advance students' enthusiasm and initiative in tennis training.3. After twelve-week footwork training, Students whose major are physical education in institute of physical education specializing in tennis upgraded more obviously than normal training in depth and accuracy of the results, which indicated that footwork training can work well on the improvement of these students' skill levels..4. As to those students whose major are physical education specializing in tennis, footwork training had a significant effect on the enhancement of their consistency, which is conducive to the students' technical and tactical performance in competition and training process.Research provides that the coaches should pay more attention to footwork training, improve "footwork training" times in tennis special course teaching, focus on a balanced development of the technology and footwork ability, strengthen the practical ability of the tennis match and improve the teaching effect and student's interest in tennis learning. Then with further innovation, more footwork training method combined with special tennis can be developed, which will provide references on tennis footwork technical teaching for physical education major of national sport colleges and universities.
