Biological definition,which lies in the central place of biology,is the basic knowledge leading students to further their study.as a major branch of this subject system,have a good command of definitions can help students better understand and explain phenomena and cases related to biology and improve their individual converse,critical thinking and the core qualities of the subject.setting situations targeting at biological definition can not only triger students’ interest,motivate them to participate in the course of study actively,but also can provide students with more chances of exercising and displaying their learning achievements hence obtain boost their confidence and definition teaching.Based on referring materials,this essay has some practical use for situational teaching strategies and practical research in high school biology definition teaching.it consists of 5 parts:firslty,introducing the research background,sorting out the relationship between biological definition,the core qualities of the subject,ways of thinking,construction of knowledge system and setting of situations and meanwhile clarify the significance,purpose,basic thoughts and design of the method.the second part defines the relative concept of definiton teaching and setting situations and then illustrate the supporting theory of the research:constructive learning theory,cognitive learning theory,situational learning theory,subject structure theory,concept changing learning theory and the latest progress in domestic research.the third part explores and summarizes the types of situational setting sources,the basic principle and application strategies of the sources,the fourth part introduces the present situation of definition teaching,students’ attitude and recognition of biology and design examples of situational teaching of definition and compare the results of different approaches through questionaires of the teachers and interviews with students.the fifth part is a reflection and summary of the teaching practice.Research results show that to cultivate students’ learning ability,biology teachers should thoroughly study theories and carry them out confidently.situational teaching can enhance students’ understanding and application of the definition,contribute to more students’ participation in class,experience with more senses and highlight students’dominant role in learning.
