Learning is a process of students gaining experience and self-transformation.School education, as a special way of transforming experience, keeps pace with the times and adopts the education ideas that are suitable for the global development and new educational strategy. With the innovation of concept,geography which has always been regarded as a minor subject, gradually get attention. The value of geography education grow too. High school geography responses to the school education idea positively. It has clear requirements: to cultivate the students’ practical ability and innovation ability, to expand the quality education, and to advocate inquiry-based learning activities. But in our country, an exam or test has been used as a standard to select talented people, and geographic practice as auxiliary teaching way doesn’t have obvious effect to improve the performance, so the school often neglect the development of the geographical practice teaching. As a result, high school students’ geography practice ability is not good. Based on this, this paper puts forward improving strategies, aiming to improve middle school students’ geography practice ability and providing the theoretical basis for promoting the development of geography education in our country.This study is based on geographical features, supported by education psychology and geography theory, define the concept of geography practical activities and analyze the geographical practice class on the basis of literature study. For further research, the study addresses high school geography practice teaching investigations through the questionnaire surveys, interviews, observation and other methods, found problems of practice teaching, and put forward the corresponding optimization strategy of solving the problems. The full text takes high school geography textbook compulsoryⅠas a ideal practice teaching design,and analyzes it in five chapters.Results shows high school students are not so interested in geography, and that the ability of geography practice and problem solving of real life are generally poor. But students are interested in the geographical practice teaching, and think that the implementation of the practice activities can stimulate the geography study interest. First-tier teachers of geography practice affirm practical activities,but teaching implementation of frequency is low, and difficult to conduct.Combined with the requirements of the new curriculum standards, high schoolgeography practice teaching is not satisfactory.According to the analysis of the problems of practice teaching, this paper proposed to adapt geography practice teaching of the high school in China for the optimization of the current situation. First, the schools, teachers should change ideas, strengthen the training of teachers, and adapt to the new teaching mode;Second, China and schools should give attention to improve teaching equipment;Third, China should concentrate on the diversified development of student assessment mechanism, pay more attention to the study of the students’ comprehensive ability. Fourth, China should increase the development of school-based curriculum, and carry out further research learning activities; Fifth,China should strengthen the communication with parents, support from the parents.
