Art education has drawn more and more attention from the public in the present age where children quality education is increasingly concerned. As a kind of enlightenment education, children art education guides children to understand the world around them and cultivates their imagination and creativity, playing important roles in their growth.Despite its continuous development and revolution, there are still many problems in current teaching mode and teaching method in some educational institutions' practical teaching process. Apart from preventing children's active exploration and experience in the creation process, these problems impede the sound development of their imagination and creativity to a certain extent.The status quo and existing problems of children art education are analyzed first. Second, the importance of creative thinking training in children art education is discussed in detail from three aspects – the premise of arousing children's interest in art creation, the purpose of fostering children's imagination and creativity, and the basic principle of developing children's natural personalities. Third, the application of creative thinking training to children art education is verified by teaching practice from perspectives such as the expansion of children's perceptual skill, the reinforcement of children's observational, aesthetic and operating abilities as well as the improvement of children's confidence in creation. Finally, creative thinking curriculum methods suitable for children art education are proposed.
