Risk Factors Of Non-suicidal Self-injury In The Freshmen By Structural Equation Modeling

Objective: In this study we attempted to find the effect of parental bonding,emotion regulation and personality to non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)by Structural Equation Modeling.We hope that this study can provide theoretical basis for taking effective psychological intervention and improving the level of psychological health of college students.Methods: Totally 1346 college students were selected in Medical College,Foreign Language College,Science College,Resource and Environmental college and Chemical Engineering college from one university.The questionnaires were Parental Bonding Instrument(PBI),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-R Short Scale China(EPQ-RSC),Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale(DERS)and NSSI.105 students were excluded because of their data missing(93),logical error(7)and L score?70(5),which yielded an overall response rate of 92.2%.Data was analyzed by SPSS20.0 with Chi-square test and ANOVA.Structural Equation Modeling was built by AMOS17.0.Results:1?524(42.2%)participants reported an act of NSSI,the prevalence rate of male were higher than that of female with significant differences(47.4% vs.35.5%,?2=17.66,P<0.05).2 ? DERS showed significant differences in emotion acceptance(F=35.63,P<0.05),effective emotion regulation strategies(F=27.46,P<0.05),impulse control(F=49.87,P<0.05)and implement the intended target(F=78.15,P<0.05)between self-injurers and others,no signficant difference was found between genders.3 ? PBI showed significant differences in farther's love(F=50.06,P<0.05),father's control(F=49.75,P<0.05),mother's love(F=15.19,P<0.05)and mother's control(F=34.21,P<0.05)between self-injurers and others,father's empowerment scores were higher in males than in females(F=3.99,P<0.05).4 ? EPQ-RSC showed significant differences in Introversion-Extroversion(?2=16.79,P<0.05),Psychoticism(?2=11.48,P<0.05),Neuroticism(?2=28.74,P<0.05)and Lie(?2=26.37,P<0.05)between self-injurers and others,the significant differences were found between males and females in Psychoticism(?2=38.70,P<0.05)and Neuroticism(?2=11.72,P<0.05).5?There was an association between parental bonding,emotion regulation and personality.6 ? The direct effects of NSSI in descending order were emotion regulation(?=0.417),parental bonding(?=0.387)and personality(?=0.276).The total effects of NSSI in descending order were parental bonding,personality and emotion regulation.Conclusion: we need the cooperation of family and school to prevent the occurrence of NSSI effectively.Parents should give enough love to their children and build a harmonious atmosphere to help children establish positive coping attitude and improve the level of psychological health.School education should focus on improve students ability of emotion regulation,help students deal with terrible state of mind.
