Over the past 20 years of the reform and opening up to the outside world, the quick development of China’s social economy and the more specialized labour division have made the professional personnel play an important role in the social employment, hence the vocational education becoming the new highlight in China’s education system. Tianjin vocational education takes the leading position in China and has gained rapid development in recent years, producing a galaxy of well-qualified, pragmatic talents. They are making due contributions to the economic development of the city, especially to the construction of Binhai New Area.Being far from mature, vocational education in China needs to grope its way in repeated practice, thus making increasingly clearer definitions in terms of development guidelines, nature of vocational education and its tasks, content, methods employed as well as relative supporting measures. In such era when human knowledge structure is becoming more and more diversified, it is of practical and instructive significance to make probes into vocational education, especially into its system.Based on literature survey, inductive analysis and comparative analysis, this thesis makes a research on the status quo and development countermeasures of Tianjin vocational education. Firstly, it looks back at and makes summary of the vocational education history in Tianjin. Secondly, it presents a panorama of Tianjin vocational education system which covers student source, specialty setting, teaching staff, talent training and education internationalization. Thirdly, through analyzing the enterprises’ requirements for technical talents and the advanced experiences of some advanced countries, it points out the problems existing in Tianjin. Finally, five suggestions are given for guiding the development of Tianjin vocational education. They are: speeding up the restructuring of vocational education; establishing a highly efficient, flexible and loose school-running mechanism; actively improving the assessment system of vocational education; well passing the acceptance check aimed at the state innovative demonstration area; and accelerating the internationalization of vocational education.
