Motivation is one of the main factors influencing the efficiency of foreign language learning,which determines the learners' participation and persistence in the process of English learning.However,due to some factors,learners' learning motivation will gradually decline or even disappear.Few researches focus on demotivation of the senior high school students in rural middle school.Therefore,in order to regain their motivation,the author carries out the empirical research on senior high school in the rural middle school.With the methods of literature,questionnaire and interview,choosing 330 senior high school students and 9 English teachers from Yunxiao No.4 Middle School as research subjects,the study aims to investigate the following questions:(1)What is the most salient demotivating factor affecting students' English learning?(2)Does it have a significant difference in demotivation among senior high school students from different grades?(3)Does it have a significant difference in demotivation between different genders in senior high school?Through the data analysis,the study shows the following results:(1)Most senior high school students(168)are confronted with demotivation in the process of English learning.(2)The factors that affect students' learning motivation in English can be classified into four aspects,that is,teacher-related factors,learner-related factors,course-related factors and environment-related factors.And among the four factors,learner-related factors have the greatest influence,followed by environment,teacher and course factors.(3)There is not a significant difference in demotivation among senior high school students from different grades.(4)There is a significant difference in demotivation between different genders in senior high school.Based on the above research results,the author puts forward the following teaching suggestions: improving students' self-confidence attribution training;cultivating students' self-efficacy through setting a reasonable learning goals;improving students' learning efficiency through training learning strategies;improving the students' intrinsic learningmotivation through creating a harmonious learning atmosphere.
