Motivation plays a very important role in the field of second and foreign language learning.In recent years,we have found various researches related to the topic which is showing interest in the study of motivation,many researchers from overseas & domestic have been continued studying motivation from different aspects.However,demotivation — the negative effect of motivation has been ignored by most of them.Especially in rural Mongolian middle school,it's almost unknown.In the first three chapters,the author illustrates a general introduction to the research background,target and significance of the research,the overall structure of the thesis and states the demotivation theory in detail,including definitions of motivation and demotivation,the studies in overseas and domestic of demotivation in second and foreign language learning and then present the theoretical framework.Thus,the research attempts to explore the demotivation issue relating to rural Mongolian middle school students.There are three questions raised in this research.(1)What is the current situation of English learning in rural Mongolian middle school students as far as motivation is concerned?(2)What is the tendency of demotivation?(3)What are the factors of demotivating in English learning in rural Mongolian middle school students?In this research,the author use combination study of quantitative and qualitative to answer the three questions above,including classroom observation,two times questionnaires,students' interview and teacher's interview.The objects of study are do questionnaire survey to 300 students from Grade 8 in the Mongolian middle school of Tong Liao City,Inner Mongolia.In order to complement the research findings of questionnaire,the author has interviews on students and teachers.15 students from 8 different classes of Grade 8 and 5 of their English teachers were involved in theinterview.The results of the research are:(1)Nowadays,there were appeared the following phenomenon in English class in rural Mongolian middle school.(2)There was a serious demotivated tendency among rural Mongolian middle school students.(3)The four main factors of demotivation in rural Mongolian middle school students in their English learning are: teachers,students,course book,teaching environment and some other aspects.The last chapter is conclusion,which summarizes the major findings,the implications,and limitations of current study and the vision of the future.
