This thesis is trying to explore the impact of UK’s Hong Kong policy on China-UK relations. The democratization of Hong Kong is the political objective of the British Government’s policy towards Hong Kong.In recent years,Britain has raised concerns about Hong Kong’s democratization process. However, with the change of the status of Hong Kong and the improvement of China-UK relations, the UK can no longer directly participate in political reform in Hong Kong.UK has to take cultural, educational, economic, public opinion, and other indirect ways to intervene in Hong Kong’s political affairs. On human rights and other issues, the UK uses international public opinion to put pressure on the Chinese Government, while it does no substantial damage on the China-UK relations. On the affairs of democratization, the UK’s high-profile solidarity strained the China-UK relations. On the issue of “Hong Kong independence”,the UK stands in line with the Chinese Government. This thesis will analyze these cases to prove that the UK will continue to l intervene in Hong Kong but will not be very tough. The UK’s Hong Kong policy has the obvious characteristics of utilitarianism and moralism. It will continue to intervene in Hong Kong on the grounds of maintaining economic interests. And it has certain impacts on the China-UK relations, but will not cause significant damage.
