From the 1950 s until today,Wang Meng is one of writers who have great significance in the literary world.His creative process largely reflects the process of evolution and development of Chinese contemporary literature.Through Wang Meng's literary activities,we can not only see the appearance and trend of an era of literary development,but also explore the literary pursuit and ideal of an era.During the long writing career,Wang Meng's works are constantly changing from themes,characters,narration to language.In the late 1970 s and early 1980 s,he was the first to introduce the techniques of the Western Modernist Novel.It promoted the reform of Chinese literature.At the beginning of the new century,although Wang meng is old,he is still continuously producing new works.Many of these works reflect an old man s view on the life and also reflected his ideas about the change of China.His creation standpoint and creation method both show his consistent individual style and the artistic orientation of constant innovation and change.This paper studies the text of Wang Meng's new century works,it has chosen three aspects to discuss the differences between Wang Meng's new century works and previous works,in chronological order,from the themes,characters and narrative mode these three aspects as well as combining with Wang Meng's life experience,the development of history and other subjective and objective factors to discuss the reasons for the transformation of Wang Meng's new century novels.The thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter mainly explains the change of theme of Wang Meng's new century novel.During this period,Wang Meng has realized that the revolution,the history and other “grand narrative” and individual,the incongruous contradiction between humanity.His creation has also shifted from the previous grand narrative of political and human relations to the speculation on the relationship between history and man.The second chapter mainly discusses the change of topic and contents of Wang Meng's novels in the new century.He no longer limited to the history of the times.He began to stand on the ground.He began to focus on the daily life and the mental state of the people in ordinary life.The third chapter explores Wang Meng's inheritance and transcendence in style and narrative mode.In terms of writing techniques,he made a lot of new attempts which including a first attempt of complex narrative perspective in the novel,unique narrative structure and the reference and fusion of traditional style.
