A Study On Exegesis Of Xun Zi Jian Shi

Xun zi is considered as a classical book of Confucianism.It was written in the warring states period,reflecting the language using in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Yang liang was the first one to write notes for Xun zi in the Tang Dynasty successively followed by many later intellectuals.The most prosperous phenomenon happened in the Qing Dynasty.Xun Zi Jian Shi,an influential note of Xun zi,was written by Liang Qixiong in the Republic of China which inherits and carries forward the research results of predecessors in order to enlighten beginners and popularize Xun zi.Liang Qixiong expounded the idea of Xun zi and made a more concise interpretation,with the common language of the Republic China and punctuation by reading a large number of books.The value of the book is not only in the popularity of Xun zi,but also in the study of ancient texts.Therefore,this paper tries to make an analysis of exegetical style,terminology and the methods of Xun Zi Jian Shi,what’s more,it summarizes the achievements and deficiencies in its exegesis,On the basis of it,this paper makes some recommendation on the revision of Chinese Dictionary.This paper mainly consists of five parts:The introduction gives a brief introduction on the significance of the topic,the current research status of Liang Qixiong & Xun Zi Jian Shi and the research methods.The first chapter studies on the exegetical style and terminology of Xun zi.It was started with two aspects from arrangement style and interpretation style.Then,the exegetical style and terminology are analyzed from six aspects including interpreting terms,disjunctive terms,inductive terms,common language,collating terms and evaluation terms.The second chapter does research on the method of exegesis of Xun Zi Jian Shi.It explains mainly from seven aspects,such as grammar,examination of textual cases,textual research of different texts,seeking for righteousness,modern interpretation ofthe past,rhetoric of interpretation and ancient teaching.The third chapter analyzes and sums up the gains and losses of Xun Zi Jian Shi based on the above chapters.In the aspect of exegesis achievements,this chapter mainly elaborates by supplementing predecessors’ materials,correcting predecessors’ notes or using new punctuation.The errors in the exegesis are analyzed in the following three aspects,including impermissible interpretation,unclear syntax,and modern law.The fourth chapter puts forward a discussion on the improper reference to the Chinese Dictionary from analyzing the quotation of the commentary on Xun Zi Jian Shi.It also suggests on the revision of the Chinese Dictionary mainly from misquoting and missing explanation.
