The Translation Strategies For Parentheses And Compound Sentences In The Scientific Text:A Report On The Translation Of In Touch With The Future:The Sense Of Touch From Cognitive Neuroscience To Virtual Reality(Chapter 3)

This report is based on the scientific text: In Touch with the Future : The sense of touch from cognitive neuroscience to virtual reality(Chapter 3).This text mainly focus on the professional introduction of tactile perception organization,and also includes researches for other senses,in which there is a lot of terminology in cognitive neuroscience,parentheses and also multiple compound sentences.These all cause the text to be somewhat inaccessible for the translator.As few research papers can be found about solutions to these problems,this report could be of use to others.The difficulties the translator met can be summed up into two aspects as follows: parenthesis and compound sentence.In terms of the former,the author utilized translation strategies of embedding,cutting and recasting.And as for the latter,the translator adopted and sometimes integrated the methods of forward translating,splitting-off and recasting.By completing this translation report,the translator grasped the linguistic features and translation methods of the cognitive technical text,and summerized the translation strategies of parenthesis and compound sentences respectively.This built up a sound basis for future translation.It is also hoped that this text can provide valuable information for translators in such fields.
