The cooperation and exchange among various regions and countries in the world have become increasingly frequent with the development of economic globalization and political multi-polarization.We are no longer isolated from each other but more closely linked. As the essence of thought and wisdom, philosophy lays the foundation of intelligence for modern science and society. We must not only strengthen the international cooperation in economy and trade, but also have a deep understanding of the supportive idea hidden in the western modern civilization.Only when we combine the merits of culture of both sides and achieve innovation in an open and inclusive mind can we realize the rejuvenation of our country. The Reform and Opening up and the socialist modernization has led to the introduction and propagation of the modern Western Philosophy on a larger scale and the new subject is getting acknowledged by larger groups. It is of great significance to the development of philosophy, science and culture to have proper understanding and make reasonable treatment of the Western Philosophy.Translation has played a vital role in the study of the Western Philosophy due to numerous obstacles in terms of language and cultural background in addition to the difficulty caused by the obscurity and delicacy in logics.Well translated works of philosophy will enhance the social civilization to a higher level as well as contribute to the progress of academy. As is expounded by the Relevance Theory, language communication is a cognitive process which is dependent on ostension and inference. The explanatory principle of relevance is established to shed light on the pragmatics in the comprehension of natural discourses. The target text is hereinafter selected as the object of study under the guidance of the pragmatic Relevance Theory.Typical cases are to be analyzed and concluded from the perspective of semantics and pragmatics to summarize the strategies and techniques of translation in different contexts through bilingual reading.Firstly, the thesis is aimed to prove the likeliness of explanation of the Relevance Theory on translation theory and practice;secondly,it is meant to provide a new view of translation for texts of philosophy and social science. Therefore,it is expected to cover the shortage of systematicness in self-study and translation practice.
