| With the speeding up of globalization, communications between people from all over the world are getting increasingly frequent, during which, news media play an irreplaceable role.As the core of a piece of news, news headline can generalize the main information of the content in order to make readers know the central information the news wants to convey the moment they read the headline. Because of this, translation has gained more and more attention and the demands upon translators are also steadily on the rise globally.Relevance Theory is the hot spot in research field of pragmatics, and it also has a strong explanatory power on translation. This theory is first put forward by Dan Sperber,a French linguist, and Deirdre Wilson, an English linguist in their common work "Relevance:Communication and Cognition" in 1986. Relevance Theory considers that, other things being equal, the greater the contextual effect, the stronger the relevance; and while understanding the utterance don’t take much effort from people, the utterance will achieve the optimal relevance, thus obtaining the best contextual effect. During the research, E.A. Gutt is the first person who applies the Relevance Theory into the translation field, paving a new way for translation study.Through the research of Relevance Theory at home and abroad, this paper analyzes the feasibility and superiority of this theory on Chinese translation of English news headlines, and by studying the function and significance on news headline translation from dynamic translation, this paper makes a tentative try on translation of news headline and put forward some simple translation strategies which are different from traditional ones. |
