A Translation Report Of Passive Voice In Beyond Global Warming Under The Guidance Of The Skopos Theory

With the development of economic globalization and the rapid improvement of industrialization,the side effects brought by scientific and economic progress are gradually reflected.One example is global warming.At present,global warming has become a hot topic in the world.In order to realize the sustainable development of man and nature,how to deal with global warming becomes very important.The translation report is based on the first and second chapters of the book Beyond Global Warming:How Numerical Models Revealed the Secrets of Climate Change by American meteorologists Sakurang Makoto and Antony,which introduces the meaning and formation of the greenhouse effect and global warming,as well as the previous researches of scholars from various countries on the issue of it.Since the original text belongs to scientific and technological text,in which there are many passive voices,the translator chose Skopos theory to provide writing guidance for this translation report.In this report,the translator will follow the three principles of Skopos theory to explore the translation strategies of the passive voice.Considering the differences between English and Chinese,the translator mainly adopts two strategies: one is to translate passive sentences into active sentences in line with the expression habits of Chinese,including amplification,reverse translation and non-subject sentences;the other is to emphasize the objectivity of the original text and to maintain the passive sentence pattern of the original text,including literal translation,adding Chinese words and so on.The translation of this project will enable Chinese readers to understand the global warming and the latest relevant scientific information,and have a further understanding of it,thus raise their awareness of environmental protection.In addition,this translation practice can not only provide the translator a deeper understanding of Skopos theory,accumulate relevant experience for future translation practice,but also used as reference for the translation of similar themes.
